Annual Boise Veterans Day Parade
This year's Veterans Day Parade will take place Saturday, November 5th, at 10:00 AM in downtown Boise, Idaho, rain or shine.
The parade begins at the corner of 10th and Jefferson Streets, and proceeds east past the State Capitol to the corner of 4th and Jefferson Streets, then south to the corner of 4th and Bannock Streets, and west to the corner of 11th and Bannock Streets where it will end. Volunteers will be posted at intersecting side streets that will be blocked off to help direct traffic. No parking will be allowed on the parade route so that everyone can easily enjoy the parade.
Our Grand Marshal this year is WL “Jack” Doerty, USAF Col (Retired). He was shot down in the Korean War and spent May 18, 1951 to September 1, 1953 as a POW of the North Koreans. He also served in Vietnam and finally retired in 1976. We are expecting over 2,000 parade participants in units representing all branches of the Armed Forces and nearly all local veterans organizations. Also participating will be the US Army Band, the BSU Blue Thunder marching band, area high school and junior high school marching bands, ROTC units, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Sea Cadets, Young Marines, and a variety of other organizations and clubs all in a salute to America's veterans. Dignitaries from local cities, counties, and state governments will also be in the parade. No commercial floats, businesses, or advertising are allowed.
This year’s national and local theme is Defending Liberty and Freedom. There is no better way to publicly demonstrate our support of all veterans in Idaho including Idaho's young men and women currently serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and the National Guard than by coming out and viewing the parade. Personal hand held flags will be distributed along the parade route, with flag donations going to benefit future Veterans Day Parades in Boise. A big parade crowd will signal loud and clear, "THANKS VETS, WE CHERISH AMERICA'S FREEDOM," so make your plans to honor all those who are and have served, and dedicate a couple hours to view the parade.
